Film Complete: Reflections and Final Remarks
Hey again! We just recently finished our film, and it turned out amazing!
Getting the film down to 1 minute was definitely a struggle. We had to cut a lot more than I thought we would! Many of our originally planned scenes were scrapped because they made our film longer than it needed to be. Every millisecond of our film that we cut definitely made a difference, even if some parts of our film were very choppy afterward.
This is also a result of how we filmed the movie. Next time we'll be sure to use Premiere Rush instead of cinematic mode on the iPhone camera. The complications that came with the film quality, video transfers, and filming technicalities was not worth the aesthetic of the cinematic features.
We were all very overwhelmed by how daunting this project was. Working with a larger cast and a broad storyboard and plot made some parts of our plan hard to follow and execute, making it so our second designated film day was our only day used to film majority of our movie. Communication and individual effort, especially on my behalf, also needs improvement. Only by collaborating was my group able to understand certain key concepts in the class, not just related to our film but also film analysis (like we've been doing with our media packs).
Other than the complications with this project, overall production went extremely well! Our film has been completed by the deadline, and it looks really good! Our sound designer chose a wonderful song to overlay the entire work, tying it together along with our black and white theme. Comparing the original plan to the finished product makes me wonder how our film would've turned out if the time limit on our film was longer and if we'd had more time to film. We used around 5 scenes from our original 9, and many plot elements were swapped while filming and editing. Overall, I believe our efforts paid off!
